Former BoG Governor named on John Mahama’s 2024 campaign team

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced its National Campaign Team for the pending 2024 general elections.

Appointed by the Functional Executive Committee, the team is responsible for leading the party’s efforts in both presidential and parliamentary campaigns.

Joshua Alabi has been named the head of the flagbearer’s campaign, placing him at the forefront of the charge in former President John Dramani Mahama‘s latest attempt to recapture power after losing the 2016 elections.

The campaign team also includes notable figures such as the former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku; Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and Dr. Mary Awusi, among others.

Dr. Issahaku resigned as the former Central Bank Governor just a year after being appointed under the erstwhile John Mahama administration. He cited personal reasons for his decision, which took effect on April 1, 2017.

He was appointed by former President John Mahama, whose presidential term ended after losing the December 7, 2016, general elections.

Before his appointment, Dr. Issahaku was the Second Deputy Governor of the BoG and previously the Chief Executive Officer of the Export Development and Agriculture Investment Fund.

Dr. Issahaku took over the BoG during the country’s phase of rising inflationary pressures, a depreciating cedi, and a banking sector crisis.
