Trump safe but bloodied and attacker dead after shots fired at rally

Donald Trump was rushed off stage during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after gunshots were heard.

Trump, the leading Republican presidential contender, dropped to the ground and was seen with blood on the side of his face.

A male attacker has been killed. Trump’s condition is reportedly ‘fine’ according to his campaign team.

A witness at the rally told BBC people panicked after they heard ‘pops’ and knew it was gunfire.

A group of witnesses told BBC News the noises sounded like firecrackers at first.

“We could see the smoke off the ground, but they kept coming so we all hit the ground,” one said.

They recounted how everyone around them ducked, but some started running after the noises.
